If you have followed my journey through Sitges 2021, I already mentioned that ‘Halloween Kills’ could not have left me more satisfied – especially after the discreet ‘Halloween night’ of 2018-. The second installment of the trilogy planned by David Gordon Green has far surpassed its predecessor thanks to its greater simplicity, its more festive spirit and, above all, an increase in the levels of truly delicious savagery.
A Michael of record
Without having to write down each death during the projection, during the first bars of the film they could already be perceived tremendous levels of brutality confirmed after the official on-screen murder count was made. And the carnage has not only been more intense than usual; It has been a record.
According to the folks at ComicBook.com, ‘Hallowen Kills’ has a final count of 30 murders, 25 of which can be attributed for sure to Michael Myers There could be more, but the chaotic climax does not allow us to fully appreciate the psychopath’s work. A figure that leaves its competitors in diapers in the saga: the 2007 remake – with 18 deaths – and ‘The curse of Michael Myers’ with 17.
But be careful, because Outside of the franchise started in 1978 by John Carpenter there is no killer that overshadows the good old Myers. Just behind, the Victor Crowley of ‘Hatchet III’ takes the silver medal of the body count with 22 deaths; leaving the bronze medal distributed between Jiggsaw and Jason Voorhees, who were aired to 21 victims in ‘Saw 3D’ and ‘Jason X’ respectively.
If you want to enjoy with your own eyes the assortment of animaladas served on a silver platter, you have ‘Halloween Kills’ available in your main cinemas from today. Few better plans to warm up for the night of the dead occur to me.
