Robert De Niro is in Madrid and the reason why he has flown from Hollywood to Spain is neither more nor less than to eat at the movies (sorry for the metaphor). Madrid Fusión, the International Congress of Gastronomy celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and the actor is its ambassador. Which means he will enjoy an exclusive menu prepared by five of the most renowned chefs in the world.
This is the “Unpayable Menu”, the work of Spanish chefs joan rock, Martin Berasategui, Jose Andres and Quique Dacostaand the Argentine Mauro Colagreco. The event will take place today, March 1, in the royal suite of the recently renovated Mandarin Oriental Ritz hotel, where De Niro is expected to be accompanied by his current partner, Tiffany Chen.
But how did this come about? crossover? It all started last year with a viral video in which Madrid Fusión’s supposed lawyer sent the star “An offer I couldn’t refuse“, in a reference to the iconic scene from The Godfather. Although De Niro did not pronounce it in the film, but rather it was Marlon Brando, the actor participated in the second film of the trilogy and even won his first Oscar for playing Don Vito Corleone as a young man.
The fact is that said offer consisted of participating in Madrid Fusión to will promote the congress internationally in exchange for tasting the menu. Although in the video he was given a period of 48 hours to accept, De Niro, who is fond of gastronomy and owner of several restaurants, did so after three days (since he does not have social networks) and now the time has come to fulfill the deal.
As shared by the organization, the exclusive menu will be made up of 16 passes distributed in six appetizers, eight main courses and two desserts. Among them you can taste dishes such as the white asparagus and truffle contessa; the caramelized mille-feuille of smoked eel, foie gras, spring onion and green apple or the hake tacos with kokotxas, coffee emulsion and paprika flakes.
In addition, it will be used to promote some of the most appreciated Spanish products of our gastronomysuch as Iberian ham, Dénia and Palamós prawns, red tuna, asparagus, hake, eel, rice, black truffle, Albufera duck or national caviar.
