Thanks to fame, the artisans of this place have increased their sales exponentially.
Paracho is a town in the state of Michoacán known for making great guitars since the 18th century and thanks to the successful Disney-Pixar movie Coco, the artisans of that place have been in great demand to produce a replica of the famous white guitar with Miguel’s golden finishes on the animated ribbon.
Paracho is the main producer of guitars in the country with about 900,000 a year, many of them exported to the US and now its residents say that after the enormous success of the film they began to receive hundreds of requests to have a guitar like that.
The prices of these instruments range from 2,000 to 20,000 pesos, depending on the quality of the wood. Currently, guitar makers and merchants are unable to cope with such demand and as one of the artisans comments: If I had a thousand guitars, would I sell a thousand?
What few know is that the prototype of Coco’s guitar was made by Germán Vázquez Rubio, an undocumented Mexican who established his workshop in Los Angeles and created, together with Pixar, the beautiful and famous white guitar.
