The goodbye to the luxurious Rolls-Royce Wraith and Dawn is getting closer. The British firm will cease production of the exquisite coupe and convertible next year 2023. Current plans include a replacement for the first, a new electric sports car that we have already seen in tests, the Specter that will debut in the middle of next year.
Almost seven years accumulates the Rolls-Royce Dawn in the market. The luxurious convertible of the British brand was presented at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and put up for sale a few months later, so it already has enough time to complete its life cycle on the market. And it is not going to be extended for a long time, because although it is no longer available for some markets since last February, the firm already has planned its disappearance throughout 2023.
The same fate will befall the variant with a closed roof, that of the Rolls-Royce Wraithwhich accumulates a couple of years more than the previous Rolls-Royce special model, since its world premiere took place in 2013. Like the previous one, it is not for sale to Australian customers either, but will leave production at the Goodwood factory at the same time as the convertible. The two models share all the mechanical base, technology, chassis and suspensions, inherited from the old generation of the Ghost, instead of doing it from the Phantom as they should have done, being the substitutes of the old Drophead.
The cessation of the Wraith and Dawn ushers in a new era at Rolls-Royce
But then Rolls-Royce tried to “cheap” its development, if you can call it that, opening the product portfolio to wealthy but younger customers. A goal that has been achieved more especially with a diametrically opposed model, the Cullinan. Today, the priorities in the luxury brand are different, and it is electrification at the highest levelso practically at the same time that the last units leave manufacturing, those of the relay will enter, which we have already been able to see in spy photos and has been officially announced by the brand.
Is he new Rolls-Royce Specter. Compared to its predecessor, it not only keeps the proportions practically intact, but also the fastback styling of the rear including also the long hood, although you will not need it because it is a completely electric model. Rolls-Royce will take advantage of the advanced “eDrive” technology of those in Munich to equip what will be its first electric, although with special adjustments to guarantee a function as perfect as that of the combustion model.
Until a couple of years ago, the British brand contemplated the replacement of both models, but just over a year ago the firm took a radical turn in its strategy. the signature decided on the complete transformation of the Wraith into an electric by bringing the Specter to the fore. The Dawn also had a planned relay, but it becomes much more complicated that Rolls-Royce decides to embark on such a sophisticated project, that of a zero-emission luxury convertible. A real challenge that is not unreasonable to think that it is in the secret plans, although really is not one of the priorities.
