Wardrobe change, here are a few words that are capable of making our skin crawl. Although this is always associated with the words chaos, disorder or eternity, the truth is that it is possible to change the wardrobe in a quick, easy and neat. The experts have spoken and teach us tipstips and ways to make this a success (and not end our patience).
Wardrobe makeover in three easy steps
When we talk about tidying up, Marie Kondo comes to mind. The Japanese order guru has been triumphing around the world for years with her revolutionary order method, KonMari. She has inspired millions of people in her day-to-day life, transforming the way we store things and making everyday life easier. In Spain we have Maria Zamora, professional organizer and creator of the KoraKora method. Together to the Decosphere expertsthey show us some tips when it comes to making an orderly wardrobe change.
All the secrets of the KonMari method (box edition: The magic of order | Happiness after order) (Body and mind)
Prepare the clothes (and footwear) that we are going to store
The first step to follow before starting any change of wardrobe is to “wash all the winter clothes that we are going to store”. According to María Zamora, it is recommended not to use fabric softener, to wash with little detergent, to hang clothes very well and not to iron them, all in order to avoid yellow stains.

When it comes to storing winter shoes –aka boots and/or ankle boots-, the experts at Decoesfera assure that “whether we are going to store them in boxes or leave them in more inaccessible areas such as attics, we will make sure that they are clean and waxed, so they will remain in perfect condition”. In addition, they advise that if we are going to store them in humid spaces such as storage rooms, we use newspaper or magazines since “in addition to maintaining the shape of the shoes, it protects them from moisture.”

Although we want to finish this process quickly, the professional organizer and creator of the KoraKora method ensures “not to make the change of season of all the cabinets in the house on the same day”. Tedious and exhausting, it is best to divide it into several moments and/or days.
An orderly wardrobe change follows these four steps
They say that horse that goes slowly, goes farIn other words, we must be clear that with patience everything is achieved. To carry out an efficient and orderly change of wardrobe, it is recommended to follow these four steps.
- Get all the winter clothes out of the closet. In this way we can classify it by categories.
- Take out all the halftime clothes. Once we have the winter clothes ordered and organized, we will do the same with the mid-season clothes.
- Select summer clothes. The time has come to take out the summer clothes, order and classify them (it is a good time to clean everything that we are no longer going to want to wear this season to get rid of it).
- Arrange, in an orderly manner, all the clothes in the closet. Based on the KonMari method, it is recommended to bet on vertical folding to maximize space and have everything in sight.
Storage boxes, the key to success
We are aware that the lack of space at home means that storing last season’s clothes can become a tedious job, but here is the solution: storage boxes to store them under the bed or in the storage room. When choosing a design, we can find ourselves in the position of not knowing how to choose which one. María Zamora recommends us all those versions that have “some rigidity” to be able to do their function (that of containing).

In addition, the experts at Decoesfera remind us that for clothes to breathe, “it is better if it is a fabric box”, and if what we are storing are good cashmere or merino wool garments, “it is best to wrap them in parchment paper” .
