The third generation Dacia Duster will be ready to storm the market in 2024. One of the great unknowns of the new Duster has to do with the 4×4 version. Under pressure from the reduction of CO2 emissions imposed by Europe, Dacia is working on an alternative solution to be able to maintain 4×4 traction in the range.
One of the most important projects that the Dacia brand is currently working on is neither more nor less than the renewal of its popular SUV. The third generation of the Dacia Duster will be a reality in the year 2024. The low-cost SUV will be completely updated. Moreover, at a technical level we will be facing a completely new vehicle. A question that has generated a lot of expectation.
Dacia has confirmed that the design of the new Duster is practically complete. However, each of the development phases remains to be completed. Road tests, winter tests, etc… It is known internally with the code P1310. The change of platform will be one of the main keys. The third generation Duster will be supported by the CMF-B platform. It is the same architecture used, among others, by the Sandero and the Jogger.
The 4×4 version of the new Dacia Duster 2024
Under the pressure of the reduction of CO2 emissions imposed by Europe, many SUV manufacturers are giving up the 4×4 versions and, if they keep them, opt for an electrified solution. Dacia is no stranger to the new and demanding regulations imposed from Brussels. That is why it must face an ambitious challenge. And it is to keep the Duster 4×4 in the portfolio without the price increasing and without the emissions being affected.
Denis Le Vot, CEO of Dacia, assured at the beginning of last year that they were working on a really complex formula so that 4×4 traction had continuity in the Duster range: «We are working on the proposal, but the equation is fucking complicated. We are seeing how far we can go. It is a work in progress. It’s hard to imagine a Duster without all-wheel drive, which is part of the car’s DNA. It must be said that the models available in this category can be counted on the fingers of one hand.
Internal sources and the latest statements made by senior brand officials show that the Dacia Duster 3 will continue to be offered in a 4×4 version. However, the latest information, some of it taken directly from internal sources, assures that will abandon its mechanical transmission with reducer for a 100% electric system.
The Dacia Duster 2024 with 4×4 drive will be electrified
in the bowels of new Duster 4×4 there will be a small electric motor driving the rear wheels to provide additional traction and, where appropriate, a 4×4 setup. It is a more expensive technical solution compared to a conventional mechanical system, however, the company assures that this technology will be generalized among manufacturers.
On the other hand, and no less important, is the fact that the internal combustion engine used by the 4×4 version of the 2024 Duster. It will be a gasoline-powered heat engine. Currently the Duster 4×4 is only available with a diesel engine and a manual gearbox. Well, we must remember that there will be no diesel engines in the range of the third generation Duster. A model that will begin its commercialization in the fall of 2024.
