If Paul Dano’s costume as the Riddler in The Batman shocked you, you should know the history of the villain’s costumes in film and TV.
Starting with the 1966 television series, a video compiles all the costumes that Edward Nygma / Riddler has worn in animation and live action, including those from the movies of Jim Carrey and Paul Dano.
The Riddler made his comic book debut in 1948, as a creation of Bill Finger and Dick Sprang for Detective Comics #140. He then moved to television starring as Frank Gorshin and John Astin in the 1960s Batman series. In 1968, The New Adventures Of Batman featured the character in animation for the first time. Finally, Riddler hit theaters with actor Jim Carrey in the movie Batman Forever (1995). Almost 30 years later, Paul Dano evolved the character in a surprising way.
To see the changes in this Batman villain, the Youtbe channel known as Tell It Animated has shared a video detailing the evolution of the Riddler’s appearance on screen. This clip shows costumes spanning from the Batman TV series (1966-68), The New Adventures of Batman (1977), Batman: The Animated Series (1992-1995), Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2008-2011 ), Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010), Young Justice (2010) and, of course, the Riddlers of the cinema.
