The emblematic “Its A Me, Mario” from Super Mario Bros performed by Charles Martinet, will no longer sound on the nintendo consoles. The video game giant announced that the 67-year-old voice actor will no longer be the interpreter of the endearing plumber, after 27 years in office.
According to a Nintenderos review, the same company informed about the decision in a short but precise statement. “Charles Martinet has been the voice of Mario in Nintendo games for a long time, since Super Mario 64. Now, Charles will take over the new role of Mario Ambassador,” the letter from the company begins.
“With this change, he will no longer voice characters in our games, but will continue to travel the world to share the joy of Mario and interact with all of us,” the Nintendo statement added.
It is not just any change that Nintendo makes. They put an end to an era hitherto unmatched in the world of video games. In 2018, Martinet was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the person who has played the same character in a video game for the longest time.
Who replaces him?
Chris Pratt has just been the voice of the plumber in Super Mario Bros. The Movie. He did not do badly, but it may not be the right role that Nintendo or the same Hollywood actor is looking for. It is believed that the company seeks to give Mario a different voice depending on the language in which the video game is released.
This is something that is already confirmed in Super Mario Bros Wonder, a title that will be released in October 2023.
