Electric vehicle sales estimates estimate that by the end of 2022 there will be 26 million on the roads, with China and Europe the main drivers of this unstoppable rise.
That the electric car is here to stay is almost unquestionable, although it is much more debatable if its introduction to the market has been done in the right way.
In any case, although in countries like Spain their presence is still scarce, in general terms the penetration of electric vehicles in the world car fleet it is very relevant. And fast.
China accounts for 46% of total sales to date, followed by Europe with 34%
This is at least what the data compiled by BloombergNEF in a study that, moreover, dares to predict that there will be 20 million electric vehicles in the world in June of this year, reaching 26 million units by the end of 2022.
Clearly uptrend
If in 2019 there were less than 10 million electric vehicles in the world, over the last two years the trend has been clearly upward despite the pandemic, the semiconductor crisis and, more recently, the war between Russia and Ukraine.
According to data from the aforementioned study, during the second half of this year, almost a million electric vehicles per month to the world automotive park. A situation that is also favored by the youth of most of this type of vehicle, which greatly reduces the withdrawal of old units.
plug-in vehicles
This trend exceeds the expectations initially foreseen in studies from previous years and the energy crisis is likely to drive even more the interest of users in vehicles that do not depend directly on the fossil fuels.
This statistic refers to all plug-in vehicles. Currently, most of them are fully electric, but the plug-in hybrids account for a considerable share with 5.3 million unitsmost in Europe.
In any case, the report anticipates that they will gradually lose market share, since the subsidies and benefits of this type of vehicle will disappear in favor of 100% zero emissions.
Finally, the report highlights that China accounts for 46% of sales totals to date, followed by Europe with 34%. North America only accounts for 15% and the rest of the countries represent a modest 5% of the global fleet of electric vehicles.
