The Earth has recorded a historical fact: the first message”alien” of all time has been received on our planet. What it is about, where it comes from and who sent it, we will answer it below.
According to a report published on the website of antenna 3, the message was issued in a drill conducted by the European Space Agency (ESA). The content of the message, which is still encrypted, has not been revealed, but it marks a milestone in space exploration.
This exciting event is part of the “A Sign in Space” project, created and directed by Daniela de Paulis, an interdisciplinary artist and resident at the SETI Institute and Green Bank Observatory. The objective of the project is explore and interpret the process of decoding an extraterrestrial messageinvolving experts and the general public in the development of this process.
How did they send the message?
Using ESA’s ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter, a simulated signal was sent from Mars. The coded message was transmitted by the mission control center in Darmsdadt, Germany.
After being stored in the spacecraft’s memory, it was converted to “telemetry” and transmitted back to Earth. You can listen to it below.
The simulated signal has been received by four stations: the Allen Telescope Array in California, the Medicina Radio Astronomical Station in Italy, the Very Large Array in New Mexico, and the Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia. The intention is to involve different disciplines in the decoding process, providing cultural and philosophical knowledge that complements the work of astronomers and scientists.
ESA has requested the active participation of the public and experts from various countries to help decode the message. In its Web pageThey have requested the sending of scientific data, reflections and any type of notes that may help to decipher the content of the message.
Dr. Daniela de Paulis has commented that receiving a message from an extraterrestrial civilization would be a transformative experience for humanity. This experiment provides an opportunity to learn how the diverse SETI community can work together to receive, process, analyze, and understand the meaning of a possible extraterrestrial signal.
