It’s been several days since ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ hit theaters. The new adventure of Marvel It is working very well at the box office and surely many of you have already had the opportunity to see it. Therefore, you may be interested to know that its director and co-writer Destin Daniel Cretton has made some interesting statements about the end of the film and its two post-credits scenes.
Watch out for spoilers from here
One of the most striking aspects of the outcome of ‘Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings’ is the death of the character played by Tony Leung. Cretton has confessed in an interview with ET that there were other versions of the script in which he ended up alive and why they ended up finally opting for his sacrifice:
Some things worked and some didn’t. We were constantly looking to find the version of the story that felt most authentic to the characters. Although the characters work on an operatic level, there are things that you try and feel cheating. And that was one of them. But you already know that anything can happen in the MCU.
Post-credits scenes
In the first post-credits scene we see together Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Benedict Wong, Brie Larson and Mark Ruffalo. The big surprise is the appearance of the last two, intrigued by the technology behind the ten rings. It was clear that Cretton was going to appreciate the opportunity to work with his fetish actress – together they previously collaborated on ‘The Lives of Grace’, ‘The Crystal Castle’ and ‘A Matter of Justice’ – but according to him it was difficult to make the pieces fit for Do the possible:
It was something I asked for from the beginning, but you can’t push for something that doesn’t make sense within this universe. And we weren’t until very shortly before it was time to shoot it. Since a lot of things are written at the same time, we had to make sure it made sense for her to be on the scene and we got it. It was one of the last things we shot and it was really special. It was good, not only to be able to spend some time with her before filming, seeing Brie come out of her trailer in the Captain Marvel costume was amazing.
In addition, the director clarified that only Wong was present with Liu and Awkwafina when the scene was shot, since Larson and Ruffalo filmed their appearance separately, which makes it stop being a very important moment, since “it is the beginning of these characters within an established group of superheroes, but, in real life, these actors are also introduced into an established group of performers. And we couldn’t have chosen a more perfect group of actors to do both.“.
The film leaves for last the revelation that Xialing has not dismantled his father’s criminal empire, since instead it has decided to be in front of it. Cretton noted the following in this regard:
I think that the family has taken several steps towards reconciliation, but also that it would be unrealistic to think that everything has been solved. I think there is an emotional aspect that Xialing had been dealing with throughout the movie that was not addressed and she obviously deserves as much attention within her family as Shang-Chi. There is a line in the movie where she tells Katy that if her father won’t let her into his empire, she will build hers. So seeing her sitting on the throne and redefining it in her own way is very exciting. I think there are many ways to interpret that moment and they are probably all correct.
