The most difficult scene in The Batman movie has been explained by its director, Matt Reeves. How did you carry out your filming?
Director of batman, Matt Reeveshas explained the incredible scene that culminates with the shot in reverse during the chase of the batmobile in which it was included The Penguin from Colin Farrell. The story of the new movie Dark Knight takes place in his second year as a vigilante. Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) have to enter the underworld of Gotham City to uncover a case of corruption. This case damages the entire city and has been revealed by Enigma (Paul Dano). For this he will have friends like alfred Pennyworth and James Gordon. But also with unexpected allies, like Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz).
During the last episode of the podcast “Reelblend” on the web CinemablendMatt Reeves talked about the exciting chase sequence we saw in batman. In it, the Bat Man chases the Penguin for a few minutes, until he ends up chasing him. The way that conclusion is presented is… just wonderful. The filmmaker explained that this shot with the plane upside down is a Hitchcockian inspiration. The purpose was for viewers to experience the villain’s point of view as he lay face down. Thus the figure of the Dark Knight would appear as something mythical, with the fire in the background.
“With this shot we put the audience to experience the same as The Penguin,” Matt Reeves described on the Cinemablend podcast.
«We did a bunch of different takes and then one of them was quite unique.“explained the director of batman. «It was upside down. I thought it was a very Hitchcockian frame. So we put the camera in that kind of subjective plane, marking the point of view of the character. In this way we put the audience in a similar experience. I thought it would be great if, at the end of all this kind of chase madness, you were suddenly in Penguin’s point of view. You are lying on your stomach while you see that absolutely mythological appearance of the hero, with the fire behind«.
What did you think of that scene? It totally blew our minds.
