The four generations of the Audi RS 6 are identified by the product code “C5”, “C6”, “C7” and “C8”. The first was released in 2002and this was the first time the dual-flow “RS” exhaust system debuted with its two oval exhausts that characterize the sports family, as well as presenting a distinctive feature: the widened bodywork. In addition, from the first until today, the quattro drive system is standard, just as all the gasoline engines it has equipped contained a supercharging with two turbochargers.
This generation also debuted in competition, at the “SCCA Competition”, the “Sportscar Club of America”, debuting on a packed Nürburgring circuit. One more detail of first RS 6 was the arrival in 2004 of a special “plus” version accompanied by a unique and very elegant exterior paint, the “Cognac Brown” that, to this day, endures.
Audi has been forced to make a multitude of modifications to the engines, since in the C6 the block was so large that the coolant reservoir had to be relocated at the base of the front right pillar, forcing the door on this side to be opened to check its level. And it is not the only transformation, because since the fuel tank is different compared to an A6 Avant, longer pipes caused mooing when refueling in prototype phase that they had to solve. The Audi RS 6 have also been visually different from the front and compared to the range versions.
Its flat headlights, inherited from the first Audi A7, make it the only model of the A6 that can mount laser headlights. In the current C8, only the roof, front doors and tailgate are common to the A6 Avant. A very special detail is also that, since the second installment, the Audi RS 6 exceeds a top speed of 300 km/h.
