We had the opportunity to test the first hour of The Devil In Me, the new installment of The Dark Pictures anthology. Here are our first impressions
The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me launches November 18 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
I was lucky enough to be able to play and review the previous three installments of The Dark Pictures Anthology. Although some I liked more than others, the reality is that it is a saga that always left me more than satisfied.
Currently, I find myself counting the days until November 18, the day it will be released The Devil In Mefourth part of the anthology and finale of the first season.
Luckily, to quench my thirst, I was able to try the first hour of this new installment.
Starting from the base, something to highlight -and that doesn’t seem minor at all- It is the ability of the development team to renew itself game after game when it comes to history. Meanwhile in Man of Medan bet on a classic ghost story, in LittleHope They put Doppelgänger, witches and demons. In House of Ashes they took a resounding turn and turned towards a completely different kind of horror.
The unknowns raised were strong enough to leave me wanting more.
So what should we expect? The Devil in Me in this matter?
This new installment invites us to put ourselves in the shoes of a group of audiovisual filmmakers. The team is cordially invited to visit a modern replica of Murder Castle, a place themed after HH Holmes, an American serial killer who, according to modern research, killed more than 300 people.
To no one’s surprise, a series of events soon begin to take place that would cause anyone to leave the castle immediately. Do the gloomy puppets have life? Is the ghost of HH Holmes stalking us? What is happening!?
While none of these questions have been answered yet, the unknowns raised were strong enough to leave me wanting more.. In my head I already drew 20 conclusions about it, but I have no choice but to wait for the game to come out to confirm if they are finally true or not.
The long-awaited changes…
I previously mentioned that The Dark Pictures… managed to reinvent itself story after story. The gameplay, on the other hand, did not run with such luck.
The Devil in Me It seems to leave behind the base of the previous installments and immerse us in what seems to be a smooth survival horror. Small elements seem to indicate that survival is not going to depend purely and exclusively on pressing the right button on time.
Another interesting change that I could notice is the incorporation of puzzles to the experience – although they were previously, this time they have more established bases.
In this sense, in addition, the title did not turn so much to be an “interactive movie”, but there was more space for the player to manipulate the character on duty and the elements of his environment.
a little painting
From its first installment, the anthology stood out positively for its graphics and realism in them. Everything seems to indicate that The Devil in Me It will not disappoint us in that matter. Its developers know perfectly how to set every corner so that the experience is completely immersive.
So approved?
It’s too early to draw a conclusion from the game, but what little I got to try was enough to leave me wanting to dive deeper and deeper into this new world. The small changes and its renewed history seem to indicate that, once again, The Dark Pictures Anthology It will give us the necessary dose of terror for any lover of the genre.
