At the beginning of the year it is quite common to establish purposes or goals that you want to achieve. One of the most frequent is to lose weight but the problem is that not everyone complies with it. The main reason is because the enthusiasm that one has in January tends to decrease as the months go by. In any case, the natural thing is to start with the practice of physical exercise, But do you know which are the countries with the most people enrolled in a gym?
Between vanity and achieving a good state of health
Although many people want to change their figure for vanity, there are also others who do it for health-related purposes. All part of the obesity that is already considered one of the most serious problems that affect the entire planet.
The first thing is to start with a definition. Obesity and overweight are the abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat that can be detrimental to health. In fact, this condition is considered a risk factor for the development of more than 100 different diseases.
Difference Between Obesity and Overweight
To calculate each one, it is necessary to know the Body Mass Index (BMI). If it is higher than 25 then it is considered overweight. Although if it is over 30 then it is obesity.
In recent decades the problem has assumed epidemic proportions. More than four million people die each year from causes related to being overweight or obese.based on 2017 estimates of the global burden of disease.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) rates of overweight and obesity in children and adults continue to rise. Between 1975 and 2016 the prevalence of both in children and adolescents aged 5 to 19 years quadrupled worldwide, going from 4% to 18%.
Obesity is one aspect of the double burden of malnutrition. There are now more obese people than underweight people in all regions except sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
Obesity and overweight, once considered problems of high-income countries, are increasing dramatically in low- and middle-income countries, especially in urban areas.
Due to all of the above, physical exercise is so important. It is a strategy to lose weight, although it must always be accompanied by other measures such as a modification in the daily diet. When the two are combined it is easier to achieve the goal.
