We know that poor diet, stress and lack of exercise lead to progressive deterioration of health. In fact, gastrointestinal disturbances are some of the most common problems facing the world today. But, mainly it is the colon, which suffers the most, due to the lack of evacuation, leading to self intoxicating the body.
Since, the main function; of this tube that connects the small intestine and the anus; is to excrete waste substances. Because, otherwise the feces adhere to the intestinal walls and ferment, being reabsorbed. What brings serious problems for health; ranging from stomach discomfort to various types of cancer.
Daily bowel movements protect the colon
Thus, the normal functioning of the digestive system invites to carry out bowel movements to the same extent that food is consumed. In, but, it is expected that at least once a day complete and smooth bowel movements will be achieved. Above all, because 50% of the world’s population has suffered from constipation at some time in their life. Becoming one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality.
Thus, irritable bowel syndrome is one of the most common diseases of the colon. And although its causes are inaccurate, diet and stress are considered triggers. Likewise, acute pain, abdominal inflammation and episodes of diarrhea or constipation; that can alternate; they are bothersome symptoms. That can be alleviated with changes in eating habits, stress management and medications.1
At the same time, ulcerative colitis arises, which may have a genetic origin. With symptoms such as inflammation and ulcers, which produce severe abdominal pain. At the same time, bleeding and bloody diarrhea may appear; increasing the probability of suffering from anemia and colon cancer. Which leads to drug treatment. But, in severe cases, more aggressive measures such as removing the colon should be opted for.2
In the most difficult cases
The most important thing is to offer quality of life to the patient. Therefore, surgical intervention, chemotherapy and radiotherapy seek to prevent the spread of malignant cells to other organs. Since, in the absence of irritation, inflammation and continuous lacerations, polyps also appear. Although most of them are benign, over time they degrade tissues, putting life at risk. 3
This is where you should remember the importance of getting regular medical check-ups and identifying the different risk factors. Since, the health professional through diagnostic tests; as a fecal occult blood test, sigmoidoscopy, or colonoscopy; rule out or confirm any pathology related to this area of the body.
