The National Commission of Markets and Competition, CNMC For its acronym, it has published the data referring to the telecommunications market updated to July 2021. There we see how the fiber optic lines reach 12.2 million in Spain, among other figures, but we have wanted to go a step further . For them, we have rescued the figures for fixed broadband lines and mobile lines between July 2019 and July 2021 to see the evolution of a market that leaves us a real bump for the large operators.
300,000 fewer fiber lines
The first segment that we are going to review is that of fixed broadband lines. In June 2019, these were the data of the three big operators:
- Movistar: 5,991,859
- Orange: 3,938,883
- Vodafone: 3,150,980
If we look at July 2021, the latest official figures, we have the following panorama:
- Movistar: 5,812,729
- Orange: 3,866,196
- Vodafone: 3,118,240
Blues are the hardest hit, losing nearly 180,000 fixed broadband lines. For its part, Orange has lost just over 72,000 lines and Vodafone is the least affected with 32,000 fewer lines. In that time, the MásMóvil Group has obtained 800,000 new lines and the MVNOs another 300,000 (with Digi and company). Together, the big three lose almost 300,000 internet lines.
Only Vodafone is saved from burning on the mobile
Even more difficult situation in the mobile field where there is still more competitive pressure. Here the situation in July 2019 was as follows:
- Movistar: 16,277,315
- Orange: 13,700,351
- Vodafone: 12,328,409
Over the years and the advancement of operators such as those that make up the MoreMobile Group, the Euskaltel Group, Digi or Finetwork, the situation in July 2021 is:
- Movistar: 16,045,345
- Orange: 12.908.552
- Vodafone: 12,380,673
Here the great victim is Orange. The french lose almost 800,000 lines over the course of 24 months. Movistar follows with a loss of more than 230,000 lines. Curiously, Vodafone has been the one that has best known how to weather the storm since in addition to maintaining the lines, it has achieved 52,000 more. Where have these lines gone? Well, all these and more to the MásMóvil Group, which now has 2.5 million more lines (including the purchase of Lycamobile, for example). The Big Three have lost a whopping almost 1 million lines in 2 years.
If it were up to you, what should you do to avoid this customer drain?
