In Argentina, the government of the City of Buenos Aires launched an initiative called “Buenos Aires+” to use technology in connection with different services of the city government. One of the changes that caught the most attention is that it will now be possible to pay taxes using cryptocurrencies.
The payment of taxes with cryptocurrencies will work through partners, who will receive and process the payments. The Bitso, Belo and SatoshiTango exchanges will be in charge of carrying out these transactions.
“Changes will also be applied to the payment of taxes, which is the ninth measure of the plan. Together with the companies, work is being done so that those who wish can pay their taxes with cryptocurrencies,” the government explained through its social networks.

The head of government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA), also announced the initiative through Twitter, with the same message:
We are also going to work on paying taxes, which is the ninth measure of our plan. Together with leading companies, we are working so that those who wish can pay their taxes with cryptocurrencies.

“To talk about crypto is to talk about innovation, freedom and opportunities. With technology, new ways of paying and saving have emerged and we want people to be able to pay with the tools they already use,” said Diego Fernández, Secretary of Innovation for the Autonomous City.
Specifically, the City will not collect in cryptocurrencies, but through the associated exchanges the option of payment in crypto will be added. The announcement comes weeks after the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro announced that it will allow the payment of real estate taxes with cryptocurrencies starting in 2023.
The announcement of the payment of taxes with cryptocurrencies also came hand in hand with the announcement of using blockchain in the City of Buenos Aires.
As reported, one of the first applications will be self-sovereign digital identity, to uniquely identify citizens in the digital world.
Having a digital identity would allow people to digitally authenticate their identity and also access, on a single platform, their information, documentation and personal records, facilitating the management of their procedures, applications and permits.
