The Renault Talisman has definitely left the market, disappearing from the brand’s official configurators throughout the European continent. The Rombo brand leaves the D segment, and the category of traditional sedans. A truly historic decision, which also means directly dispensing with the family variant, and without replacement.
Renault has kept its word. early March, and the Talisman no longer appears in any of the official configurators of the French manufacturer on the European continent. As we have been telling you over the last few months, the Rombo firm is definitely abandoning one of the most valued and also most difficult segments in recent times in which the Premium alternatives practically survive.
The traditional saloons with the four-door sedan cut, and the estates, have been truly swallowed up by the SUVs, which is the case with the Talisman range. A model that debuted the sophisticated “CMF C/D” platform and in which a significant investment was made adopting the style of the germansproviding the French representative with an important dose of technology and an elegant design to try to scratch sales that, in seven years, they have barely reached 120,000 units throughout Europeaccording to figures in the possession of JATO Dynamics.

A very curious fact is that, if Renault considered that the third and last generation of the Laguna was a failure, especially due to its design and that the Talisman came to solve that commercial disaster, those little less than 120,000 units achieved in seven years, his predecessor sold them in his first year of life. Which is more than enough to understand the difficult situation of what has been the top of the range, assuming a double role: the relay of the Laguna and Latitude. Despite the circumstances, those of the Rhombus have been able to put up with a model with such poor commercial performance, but what is more certain is that they are going to save a lot, because they do not have a replacement assigned in the same format either.
And what is almost worse is that the brand it will be orphaned from a top of the range, at least, until 2024, when a special variant of the new Austral that is about to debut is scheduled to arrive. Between this and the substitute for the Koleos there will be a sportier alternative, an SUV with hints of a coupé which, surely, will also change the commercial name so that it is not associated with that of the saloon and the family.
Luca de Meo is no stranger to the market, rather the opposite. The Italian knows that, just as the C segment was abandoned to a kind of volume rather than profitability, the line was followed with the superior category, which has ended with a long era that has always had a representative as a banner. The great failure of the Talisman was conceived practically at the same time as its development, with commercial aspirations far above reality, and practically destined to herd the most basic options of the German Premium. The next ones on the list will suffer the same fate are the Scénic, Grand Scénic and Espace.
