In 2021, the production of canned food reached a value of 62 thousand 757 million pesos in Mexico.
The average expense in preserves increased around 16.7 percent, throughout the confinement by the Covid-19.
In 2021, the production of canned fruits and vegetables grew 10.2 percent.
As part of its actions to protect the Mexican consumer, The Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office (Profeco), highlighted in the new study it carried out, where it highlighted the canned foods that will be withdrawn from the market for deceiving people.
According to the analysis that was carried out on 47 different products, because they were taken into consideration various brands of sardines that were accompanied by olive oil, tomato sauce, marinade and edible oil.
The study evaluated the objective of knowing if they fulfill what they promise on their labels; ayes as in its composition, after which they determined that some of them must be withdrawn from the market for deceiving the consumer by not fulfilling what they promise.
These are the canned foods that will be recalled
In the study that will be published in the next issue of the Consumer Magazine, Ricardo Sheffield Padilla, the owner of the prophecyadded some of the results they obtained, where they found three brands that can no longer be sold, because they give less product than what is declared on their labels.
Among the products and brands are sardines in Guaymex Tomato Sauce, since it has 23 grams less.
sardines in Altamar Tomato Sauce, because it has 14.2 grams less, sardines in Calmex Oil, as these offer 11.8 grams less
Similarly, the study included that there are two brands of canned sardines that contain “less drained mass”, that is, the amount of product without the liquid with which they are accompanied.
It is about Orbe, who gives 20 grams less; and Altamar, which offers 18.2 grams less; however, she did not say if they will be withdrawn.
Products where they found viscera and debris in the sardines
In addition to finding less product, the analysis also highlighted that another aspect that the owner of Profeco made known is that some of the canned food brands have waste, so it is possible to find scales, guts and even fins, which can be unpleasant for consumers, since canned sardines are not entirely clean.
The brands where more debris was found was: Altamar in tomato sauce: with 11 percent viscera, 0.5 percent scales, and 0.1 percent fins. Vigilante Sardines: contains 2.2 percent viscera, 0.1 percent scales, and 0.2 percent fins.
Very Fisher’s in olive oil: It’s 1.6 percent viscera, 0.4 percent scales, and 2.1 percent fins.
In this sense, Profeco once again launches a study where they put Mexican consumption at the center, so it is important that if you find products that give less than the amount indicated or with misleading advertising, you can file a complaint with the organism.
