At present the figure of the mythical Duke Nukem is in the doldrums, especially due to the debacle caused by the late launch of Duke Nukem Forever, ultimately his latest video game. And that was a decade ago, not counting the conversion to more Duke Nukem 3D systems for its 20th anniversary edition, of course.
The good of Duke Nukem never had another game with the same impact than the 1996 classic (great year for videogames) and it doesn’t seem like Duke Nukem Begins, one of many canceled projects would have better luck. Because now the studio responsible for its cinematics has just shown what its introduction would be like, with Duke shooting in the third person and in the company of others.
Saving how badly a cinematic of this caliber has aged, those scenes do not help extremely either. scripted to make it clear what a perfect game would be like in which we would not suffer any damage and without missing a single shot at those alien pigs. For the rest, the essence of the saga is perfectly replicated, how could it be otherwise to be so hooligan.
Duke Nukem Begins was little in development by Gearbox Software, lasting only two years until its cancellation in 2009. It coincided with a legal mess between 3D Realms and Take-Two Interactive due to property rights with the license. In fact, in 2014 Gearbox took legal action against 3D Realms for an issue that brought a tail for that cancellation and the terrible result that Duke Nukem Forever obtained with so many comings and goings for too many years.
