Autumn is a time of change. After returning from vacation, everything begins again. And we also feel like making changes at home, whether by tidying up and changing the wardrobe, incorporating textiles, or even painting. In fact, paint in autumn once the rigors of summer have passed and before winter arrives, it is a classic.
In case you have never painted the walls of your house but you want to do it for the first time this fall, in addition to the advice that we can give you from our own experience, we have also spoken with the firm’s experts Brico Depot to complete and give us a few tricks so you can paint the walls of your house and achieve a more than impeccable result.
The steps to follow to paint the walls of your house
Prepare the house. To start, you will need to prepare the house for painting. No matter how careful you are, painting always does its thing. So to avoid surprises and accidents, protect windows, doors, skirting boards or switches with masking tape. In the case of floors and furniture, it is best to cover them with protective paper or plastic cover. This part is the most tedious, and the one that will probably cost you the most time.
Prepare the surface. When you have everything protected, it is time to prepare the surface that you are going to paint: you will have to repair cracks and imperfections in the wall, and to do so, you will need to apply a special putty with a spatula. Leave it for 24 hours, and sand the surface so that the wall is completely smooth.
Clean the wall. The next step will be to clean the walls to clean the dust and other particles that may be attached. If there is mold, you should use a specific cleaner or water diluted with 10% bleach.
Apply a sealer primer. The big mistake many people make when painting is that they don’t apply a primer first. If you want a good result, you should apply a primer coat to improve the adhesion of the final coat of paint. Each primer will tell you the dry time and overcoat preference on the can.
Buy rollers and brushes. To apply both the primer and the paint, you will need to use a short/medium nap roller. For the corners, it is best to use a brush. You will also need a roller rack and a bucket to pour the paint into. If the house has high walls, a roller with a telescopic rod will also come in handy.
Fine finishing coatl. Once the primer is applied, you must apply two coats of paint so that the result is adequate. Between coat and coat of paint you will have to leave at least four hours.
When painting, wring brushes and rollers well to remove excess paint to prevent smudges, drops and areas where there is excess paint. As advice, do not press too hard when painting with the roller, it is better to do it gently.
Paint with natural light. If you want to avoid surprises and detect any flaws that occur, paint with natural light to help you see the flaws.
paint in order. To optimize your time and your work, organize the painting. Start with the ceilings to prevent drips from falling on the already painted walls. And on walls, start from one side to the other instead of starting in the middle.
