We continue with our weekly debates. On this occasion, a few days ago we proposed the following question to you on our Discord server:
What is the best open world game? Why?
It is time to collect here the best answers that you have left us, so here we go. We will start with the one that left us workacb:
“The open world game that I enjoyed the most (and surely second on my list) would be Red Dead Redemption 2. Now, as an open world, I stick with Zelda BotW, because of how it opens up to the player, how it reacts to it (and how he reacts to the world), with no limits other than those of physics itself, in a natural way. There are games that I have liked more, but as a sandbox what they achieved seems to me a feat that years later still no one surpassed or equaled ”.
Alejandro Espinosa I was shooting the same way:
“Red Dead Redemption 2 or Breath of the Wild. I think there are no open world games better than these two mastodons. “
On the other hand, this is what he commented JotaJotaBiker:
“Well I would say maybe Minecraft. The main reason is its infinite world and the thousands of things you can do in it: have adventures, dungeons, build unthinkable things … With redstone you can do some programming, even with good shaders or a ray-traced card, graphically it’s very nice”.
WiLL left us a brief “World of Warcraft, please”, while alba_faca He also opted for a short and direct message: “The Witcher 3. For the setting, characters, story, sidequest, graphics and gameplay.” For its part, Hatsune Nibor He told us the following: “I would say that Genshin Impact, since there are so many possibilities to pass the time, even if you do it just to raise your adventure level, the game does not stop giving you something to do to be able to have fun for a long time ”.
As you can see, a good handful of games are coming out. And more come, such as Minecraft with the comment that he left us Dai-Yamamura:
“Minecraft, you can build without limits and practice with a lot of things. There are animals, reliefs, biomes and a lot of materials available. Putting that together with shaders or texture packs, they make Minecraft incredibly beautiful.
If you take into account the Education Edition, then even better. Minecraft can be used in plastic classes, for example, to create large-scale sculptures. And the best of all is that it is not necessary to pay if you use free launchers ”.
ZombpepeGamer is also on the wave of Dai with his comment:
“Minecraft. Its lightweight graphics and easy-to-learn mechanics make it playable by anyone. It is a game that, thanks to all the things it offers, has become the best seller, and playing with friends the experiences are even better and you get to keep very nice memories of all the games.
Thanks to its random world generation, your adventure will always be something new. In addition, it is a fairly customizable game, and you can do from a simple texture to a functional computer ”.
For its part, Pipeño aka Mr Nobody go back a bit to the beginning, in this case with an extensive and more than interesting reflection:
“Red Dead Redemption 2. For many days I lost myself in its reality admiring every detail. I think the big difference that sets it apart from all other games is its realistic immersion alongside incredibly minute details. Every day I walked the fields with my horse, waiting for the game to surprise me in a spontaneous encounter. And so it was, suddenly I saw a peculiar and familiar shape … then I realized that this was the area that I searched for days with the clues of my treasure map.
Again, when walking through the countryside, I entered a cabin and happened to find cigarette stamps, traces of some anecdotal story such as a meteorite, a homicide, an unusual laboratory, etc. The npc’s that I came across by chance on the roads made me feel the instantaneousness of time and how those things only appear suddenly, I talked with them and I could learn their stories, their reflections.
Gathering flowers, hunting, drawing a church in my journal, a square root, looking for dinosaur bones … anyway. I think Red Dead Redemption 2 is an ode to life, to reality, especially to that of the countryside and that of archaic contact and, therefore, close to nature. After playing, I wanted to find out about interesting things about my environment, travel to the countryside and admire some leafy tree, find an abandoned house or an old church in ruins. Explore … that’s what an open world is all about, right? And what is more enriching than exploring what exalts the world, life and nature… ”.
We continue with game dyne, who told us the following:
“Breath of the Wild is the game that I consider to be the first open world of videogames and, therefore, it must be who I vote for.
The reason is that in the rest the open world is a chimera. You end up having to go from A to B and from B to C. They are still missions placed on a very large map that must be done in order and where the open world is usually nothing more than an excuse to add time walking or fill it with collectibles that Most of the time (they also have little work behind them), it gives the impression that they are not only secondary missions for the player, but also for the development team.
Breath of the Wild gives you the freedom that is essential to me in an open world. The first time I spent it, I did it without facing the divine beasts, for the laughs. I didn’t do it the first time, but I armed myself a little more and went back to finish it off without skipping my principles. I really felt that my departure was my departure. I felt like the world was really open. It was honestly a revelation. “
Loputolobs, on the other hand, returns to bring out the adventures of Geralt:
“The Witcher 3. Simply the landscapes, the aftermath of some lands affected by wars, the city of Novingrado, the swampy areas that bring you closer to witchcraft in its purest form, the island of Skellige … it even gives more feeling of being in lands Vikings than in AC: Valhalla and, above all, the fortress of the Warlocks of the school of the wolf, the first landscape you discover when you step out onto the balcony is impressive.
The history, the dedication in that game … you can see every effort by CD Projekt in every sub or main mission, it is a sublime game, and for me it is still the best game they have released in the last 20 years. I hope that 4 will follow the same path ”.
We will finish this review with the extensive message that he left us Clandestine04 and that introduces a game that until now had not been mentioned:
“The best open world game I think is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
I’m not going to deny the fact that other games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey have spectacular scenery and fantastic gameplay, but I think Skyrim delivers very well (albeit with some bugs, but what game doesn’t) with what I consider to be the most important goal. important of this type of games: the immersion in the world they create. In Skyrim we can talk to practically everyone interacting in many ways and we are not simply going to talk to those people who give us a mission as happens in other sagas such as GTA, Far Cry or Assassin’s Creed.
Skyrim does not have hyper-realistic graphics, but it makes us feel part of the world very well in those moments of walking through a city, decorating our house, chatting with people in the market or that we meet on the way in our adventures. It also has endless missions that will make us move from one place to another without stopping.
In addition to the continuous references to previous games, their respective stories and the world that Bethesda has created, because by reading books or listening to conversations we can learn about mythology, the different races that inhabit Tamriel, some have even become extinct and are surrounded by a halo of mystery. We can explore ruins, pray to the gods, learn about the political and religious conflicts that exist or have been. And all with an incredible soundtrack that knows what song to play at any moment, even when we are walking on a trail. An experience that should not be missed.
I hope this encourages someone to discover The Elder Scrolls saga, and those who played it will once again be amazed by Skyrim while we wait for the sixth installment. “
As always, you have the comments of this article at your disposal to leave your opinion and participate in the conversation.
Thank you.
