The Riddler returns to the big screen within the plot of The Batman, and its director, Matt Reeves, spoke of the characteristics that Paul Dano imprinted on the villain
The Batman has hit theaters around the world, and with the hero’s return to the movies, so does one of the Dark Knight’s most dangerous nemesis, The Riddler, played by Paul Dano.

Unlike the versions of the Riddler by actors like Frank Gorshin, John Astin and Jim Carrey, Dano’s performance adheres to the characteristics that the villain had in stories like The Long Halloween or Dark Knight, Dark City.
“That character is trapped in his art and struggles to communicate with those around him… That was spiritually connected to the idea of this isolation that Riddler felt”, declared Matt Reeves, who praises the work of Paul Dano.
“Paul is off center in a way that makes him very relatable. He didn’t want this character to be a villain. Even in the darkness of him, he wanted to see that humanity.”
The filmmaker pointed out that he wanted Paul Dano, who is also a filmmaker, to capture a more updated version of the Riddler, attached to a Machiavellian personality.
“The Riddler is a product of our times, the way people isolate themselves online and retreat into mental activities that substitute for no contact.”.
The Batman will star Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle / Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / The Riddler, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot / The Penguin, and John Turturro as crime boss Carmine Falcone.
Jeffrey Wright will also star as Police Commissioner James Gordon, while Andy Serkis will play Alfred Pennyworth.
The premiere of The Batman in movie theaters in Mexico is scheduled for March 3, 2022.
