The British firm has surprised us with the launch of an open variant of its most radical and performance model, the new Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider. This has the same mechanical and aerodynamic configuration of the original model but has a new removable roof panel and butterfly-style opening doors.
The launch of this new open variant of the Aston Martin Valkyrie has caught us by surprise, as this model was developed to squeeze its maximum performance on the track, so an open variant of a playful nature did not seem to fit the strict specifications Posted by Aston Martin, Red Bull Advanced Technologies and Cosworth.
However, Aston Martin has surprised locals and strangers by presenting this extraordinary open variant of its mid-engined sports car over the weekend of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2021. the new Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider. A variant that will be manufactured in strict limited edition and that will begin production at the end of 2022.
Design
At the design level, we will not find any significant changes in the model, since still riding the same carbon fiber monocoque of the coupe version and its radical aerodynamic configuration, including the venturi tunnels that run through the entire lower area, surrounding the cabin. The differences are found exclusively in the removable roof panel and the new doors.
As we can see in the images that accompany this article, the Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider has completely different doors from the coupe version, since the latter has gull-wing style doors, with the hinges precisely on the roof. Aston Martin has had to develop new vertical and front opening doors, butterfly wing style, to be able to completely clear the roof and develop the removable top panel. A very interesting detail is that the doors include a fixed glass that cannot be dismantled, so the aesthetics of the model without a roof is quite peculiar.
Mechanics
If at the frame level we continue to find the same and radical configuration developed by Aston Martin under the leadership of Adrian Newey, under the rear hood continues to inhabit the same naturally aspirated V12 engine developed by Cosworth and that in combination with an electric motor delivers 1,155 hp. Figure revealed by Aston Martin in the press release for the presentation of the model and which contrasts with the figure revealed so far for the coupe, which was 1,176 hp (1,160 hp) and 900 Nm of maximum torque.
In any case, this means that we are facing the fastest convertible in the history of Aston Martin, as the British brand has confirmed that the model is capable of driving open-top at a maximum speed of 330 km / h, a figure that increases to 350 km / h if we mount the roof. According to the company, the new Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider has the same performance as the vehicles that competed in the LMP1 category of the WEC.
