The interior of the Apple Watch Series 7 appears identical to that of the Apple Watch Series 6 released a year ago.
The September keynote brought us many weights, we all knew that Apple was going to lend the iPhone 13, but very few were betting on also seeing the new iPad and iPad mini. Another of the guests at the event was Apple Watch Series 7, which hit hard all the rumors about a major redesign and stayed true to the lines designed more than 7 years ago.
The new Apple Watch Series 7 introduces new features, the most important of which is the enlargement of the screen. However, the inside of the device seems to be exactly the same, using even the same processor as the Apple Watch Series 6.
During the presentation Apple did not speak at any time of the processor of the Apple Watch Series 7, something quite strange. With each new generation of the Watch, Apple has boasted of significant performance improvements. And this year, that did not happen.
Same chip with different name?
Developer Steve Troughton-Smith investigated the issue and has been able to confirm, based on the latest version of Xcode, the app that allows developers to create applications for Apple devices, that the Apple Watch Series 7 has the exact same CPU as the Apple Watch Series 6 from last year.
There is a reason Apple didn’t talk about the Apple Watch Series 7 CPU this year…
… And it’s because it’s the exact same as last year’s Series 6 👀 In fact it doesn’t even get a new model number, it’s effectively just a chassis tweak pic.twitter.com/mLsTNkdTNO

Both the Apple Watch Series 7 and the Apple Watch Series 6 have the CPU “t8301”, which is the code name of the processor we know as “Apple S6”. Which means that The new Apple Watch is internally identical to the Apple Watch Series 6, same processor, same sensors and same battery.
We don’t really know why, maybe Apple hasn’t had time to develop a new chip amid the pandemic and have opted for a more sustained evolution of the Series 6 in anticipation of a real change next year. In this way, the future Apple Watch Series 8 will have both a new exterior design and new functions inside.
