The first limited run of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from the Australian Football League (AFL) got a big hit on Wednesday, selling out in just under 12 hours.
On Wednesday, the football league launched Ripper Skipper 2022 through its AFL Mint program, allowing people who joined the “allow list“ buy one of the 3,800 packages reserved for delivery.

Packages are priced to the public at 34.39 USDC eachand the project is estimated to have raised over 130,000 USDC.
Ripper Skipper 2022 NFTs present 78 significant moments and highlights from the 2021 season using both video and audio. Each pack features three “moments” in a trio of different rarity levels, common, deluxe, and cheer.
There is also limited edition digital content; Anyone who took part in the first installment has a 10% chance of getting an AFL Mint Genesis ball.
Although the initial mintage sold out within a few hours, the general public will have access to another installment on August 24.
NFTs are digital certificates stored on the blockchain that prove ownership of a digital or physical asset, often a work of art, but The AFL Mint has plans to expand the concept and offer match day events, tickets and the chance to meet players in the Metaverse.
Kylie Rogers, AFL Executive General Manager of Clients and Business, He said they hope to use the technology to improve the experience for fans.
“Through our AFL Mint brand, we will launch exciting new moments from our men’s and women’s competitions, as well as celebrate past greats and other product launches that will bring a unique fan experience that we haven’t seen before.”
The AFL announced its NFT market, AFL Mint, in April, revealing that it had entered into a five-year partnership with Be Media.a Perth-based subsidiary of Hong Kong NFT gaming giant Animoca Brands.
The market will launch in 2023 and will allow the sale and exchange of moments between fans and collectors.

The NBA launched its NBA Top Shot market in 2020 to critical acclaimwhile the UFC created UFC Strike in February of this year.
Other Australian sporting codes have also followed suit: Cricket Australia (CA) and the Australian Cricketers Association (ACA) signed a multi-year license agreement with Singapore-based collectibles platform Rario and NFT trading company BlockTrust in April.
For its part, Queensland Rugby League had a 10,000 NFT delivery titled The Ultimate Queenslander NFT on the Flow Blockchain.
