In Spain we like to celebrate and go out there to enjoy our leisure time. In fact, whenever we make a cool or special plan with our partner, friends or family, there is a restaurant involved. And when it comes time to have lunch or dinner away from home, it’s better to do it in a nice restaurant that accompanies the gastro proposals.
So said and done, today we have prepared a selection with some of the trendy restaurants in Madrid. Places where the decoration is a value in itself, inviting us to enjoy food and a pleasant evening in a beautiful (and Instagrammable) place.
Le Macao, the trendy place in Azca
Le Macao is one of the latest gastro (and deco) novelties in Madrid. With the signature of Studio Cousithis restaurant is located in Azcaon the Paseo de la Castellana just in front of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. And with its spectacular staging in one of the fashionable areas of the capital, it offers us a trip to french indochina and japan in the 1940s thanks to its menu, the local product and the decoration.
The interior, with a double-height circular floor plan to create a set of levels and space thanks to the organic forms that remind us of Asian rice fields, has a decoration that surrounds us. Among the deco elements, the fine Asian marquetry details in red tones that revolve around the most iconic element of the decoration, a large inspired wooden column in an inverted Chinese umbrella that is surrounded by a bench.
There are more elements that are subtly reminiscent of oriental culture, such as the backlit red latticework on the ceiling, the screens hung on the iroko railing and the long brass tubes that resemble Chinese lanterns. The bright colors and the careful and warm lighting have been key elements in the design. Next to the main space, there is a heated covered terrace that captures the essence of a Singapore square in which the reserved ones have been designed as if they were small cabins.
And as far as the menu is concerned, we can find attractive Proposals that fuse Madrid gastronomy with Asian cuisine in XS format with an adjusted price-quality ratio. Among the essentials, there are suggestions such as the Tuna Tataki marinated in Japanese soybeans, the Cantonese torreznos, the truffled scrambled eggs (they are surprising), or the garlic prawn croquettes, without forgetting the signature sushi or the ideal cocktail menu. for the after work.
Bakan, Mexican airs in the Puerta de Alcalá
Bakan is is the new place to be from the Puerta de Alcalá. This Mexican restaurant has an impressive interior design, as it takes care of even the smallest detail with exclusive pieces inspired and made in elements of the Aztec country. Glazed clay pineapples from Michoacán in each corner of the restaurant, Agave leaves from Huichol art, corncobs decorate the walls, or the classic Aztec cacti are some of the elements that we can find in this restaurant.
Regarding the menu, we can find some of the most classic dishes of Mexican cuisine, with proposals such as carnitas, cochinita or sea bass tacos, handmade every day with the Nixtamalization technique, a process that transforms the corn grain into dough; to a variety of meat and fish dishes such as jarocho sea bass, octopus, rib cagada in mole de pot divorced or entrails, made on an oak wood grill that refers to the preparation of what is traditional in Mexico.
Torcuato, eclecticism in the Barrio de Salamanca
Surprising and groundbreaking. This is Torcuato, the restaurant of the La Fábrica group located on the top floor of the ABC Serrano shopping center. The space has been designed by the interior designer Pepe Leal in full color with rooms full of light and magic. The restaurant is inspired by the eclectic universe inspired by the trips made by Torcuato Luca de Tena throughout the world. The main corridor that divides the rooms is a gallery of curiosities, and its rooms will not leave you indifferent.
The first room stands out for its yellow sofas and marble tables, along with plants and flowers displayed in a selection of vases and glass containers. The second of the rooms reminds us of the France of Queen Marie Antoinette (pay attention to her spectacular lamp), while the cocktail bar is reminiscent of Grant Gatsby, with art deco details. The menu, as eclectic as the decoration, has proposals that range from Japanese food to picaña steak tartare, through crispy oxtail lasagna with boletus and truffle, or a complete selection of meats and fish.
Papagena, a restaurant with views of the Royal Palace
Papagena is the restaurant that opens its doors on the sixth floor of the Teatro Real in Madrid, bringing together two greats from the world of decoration and gastronomy. Because while the deco has been made by Luis García Fraile, the menu bears the signature of the two-star chef Ramón Freixa. The name of this restaurant with views of the Royal Palace is inspired by one of the characters in Mozart’s opera ‘The Magic Flute’, and his personality, half man, half bird, has been reflected in its interior design, with elements such as velvet in bright colors to simulate the plumage of birds. Damask curtains, organically shaped furniture and large screens give character to the open space that opens onto Plaza de Oriente with large windows.
Among the suggestions on the menu, there are croquettes of ham, artichoke flowers, Iberian saam with live lettuce, bacon and flame octopus, the three-meat roasted cannelloni with boletus, foie and truffle sauce, or the confit cod loin au gratin with a garlic muslin.
Caluana, the trendy restaurant a stone’s throw from the Plaza Mayor
Caluana could not be missing from this agenda of essential addresses to go out for lunch or dinner this fall/winter. Located a stone’s throw from the Plaza de Mayor, this Italian-Spanish cuisine restaurant and tabletop show is giving a lot to talk about in this area of the Spanish capital. Among the spaces of this restaurant, El Olivar stands out, a place full of magic with almost half a millennium of history located in an old chapel that was part of the Temple of Santa Cruz and that was also the headquarters of the Madrid Stock Exchange. Today the structure maintains its classical style, under the Baroque barrel vault decorated with plaster work and gold leaf. The other great space in Caluana is El Invernadero, a more informal space that is an authentic oasis in the heart of Madrid. In the basement, Maldita Gioconda is a 16th-century canteen ideal for cocktails.
On the menu you will find proposals such as potato omelette croquettes, Idiazabal melanzane, different pastas, creamy rice with veal cheeks, broad beans, Iberian jowls and fried artichokes, as well as meat and fish.
