The third wave of Covid-19 continues to grow and the result is that epidemiological week 29 begins with a 16 percent increase in the number of estimated cases compared to the previous week. In addition, 131 thousand 632 people with signs and symptoms were detected, who represent 4.4 percent of the total epidemic in the country. While on the other hand two million 226 thousand 594 people have recovered from this new disease.
Hospital occupancy increases in the country
For its part, hospital occupancy in the last 24 hours is reported unchanged to 46 percent of general beds and 38 percent of beds with mechanical respirators. While one of the most worrying points is the expansion that the Delta Variant has had. Only in the capital of the country already represents 86 percent of new cases.
Given the current scenario, the main recommendation is to maintain basic prevention measures: healthy distance, frequent hand washing with soap and water, correct use of face mask, ventilation in closed spaces and reduced capacity in public spaces. All the indications also apply to those who have already received one or both doses of the vaccine.
However, a fundamental aspect is that anyone is exposed to being infected or suffering fatal consequences. In this regard, the General Directorate of Epidemiology (DGE) points out that since the beginning of the pandemic the death of 373 pregnant women or women in the puerperium state has been reported by Covid-19.
With this, it is the highest figure for Maternal Mortality Ratio registered in Mexico since 2012. Now there have been around 50.8 deaths per 100,000 births, while nine years ago there were 42.1 per 100,000 births.
Of the total deaths, 36.9 percent occurred in hospitals of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) and 55.6 percent in hospitals of the Ministry of Health (SSa). It is also indicated that 107 pregnant women were in an Intensive Care Unit and 117 had to be intubated.
Most frequent symptoms
As part of the collected data It is indicated that in severe cases, between three and seven days usually elapse from the onset of symptoms to hospital admission. While the five most common signs that infected pregnant women develop are the following:
- Headache
- Cough.
- Fever.
- Myalgia.
- Odynophagia
While that is not all because it is also mentioned that at this time there are 512 pregnant women hospitalized because they tested positive for the infection. So far there are six states that group the majority of patients.
- San Luis Potosi.
- Campeche.
- Morelos.
- Mexico state.
- Oaxaca.
- Yucatan.
Finally, it is indicated that within the most frequent comorbidities in pregnant women, seven percent had obesity; three percent hypertension, three percent diabetes, and 1.9 percent asthma.
On the other hand, it should also be remembered that at the beginning of the pandemic pregnant women were not considered a vulnerable group to receive the vaccine first. It was a few months ago that the World Health Organization (WHO) changed its position. Since then they have been given priority in Mexico to be immunized against Covid-19 immediately.
