The second day of the official test of the 74th edition of the 24 Hours of Spa had two Porsche GT3 as protagonists, although none have managed to match the Audi #32 record achieved the day before. With everything, KCMG’s #47 Porsche finished as the fastest car of the day closing the morning session with a time of 2:17.725. Already in the afternoon, the Porsche #74 of EMA Motorsport has led the time table, although with a time of 2:18.069, record achieved by Matt Campbell.
The Porsche #47 of the KCMG team closed the third session of the official test of the 24 Hours of Spa at the top of the time table thanks to the 2:17.725 signed by Laurens Vanthoor. In a day with a clear Porsche flavor, the oldest of the Vanthoor brothers ultimately surpassed the Allied-Racing #91 Porsche. For its part, JOTA’s McLaren #720S GT3 took third place after signing his best time in the first stages of the day. The ‘top 5’ was closed by the Audi #12 and #26.
The Audi #32had to settle for eighth position, although Team WRT’s GT3 ended up being the fastest vehicle in the test thanks to Charles Weerts Tuesday weather. Beyond that, Wednesday’s morning session was interrupted with 25 minutes to go by a red flag deployed to facilitate a track inspection. 61 of the 62 GT3 present at Spa took to the track, leaving Barwell’s #78 Lamborghini as the only vehicle that did not participate in the session.
In the afternoon, Matt Campbell put the #74 EMA Motorsport Porsche in front of the last test session with a time of 2:18.069, a record that served the official pilot of the Stuttgart firm for beat the #10 Boutsen Racing Audi by 85 thousandths, piloted in his best turn by Adam Eteki. In fact, the Belgian team’s GT3 avoided Porsche’s 1-2-3, since in third and fourth position were the Porsche #100 and #47. For its part, the Audi #25 of Saintéloc Racing completed the ‘top 5’.
Although he has been one of the protagonists of the day, the Porsche #47 has also been the cause of a red flag in the last hour of the session, being one of the four incidents seen during the last five hours of track testing. A runway exit Ferrari of Iron Dames, a puncture of the Porsche #54 of Dinamic -second absolute best time of the test- and an exit from the track of the Audi #46, GT3 in which Valentino Rossi competes, have caused the other three neutralizations of the session.
