Jason Schreier speaks about it.
Since 2005 we have been able to see how every October-November video game stores and department stores in much of the world filled their shelves with the multiple Call of Duty titles that have been released since then. And it is not for less, since the saga falls within the category of annual game that never fails.
This is something that in recent years has been shared with franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, FIFA and Pokémon, although in recent times it has been seen as pocket monsters and Assassins Creed have opted more to release new content in the form of DLC instead of annual deliveries that fill the stores. And under this premise, Call of Duty may leave FIFA as the only one with this role.
Jason Schreier points out that in 2023 there will be no Call of Duty
It was Jason Schreier, a renowned Bloomberg journalist who never says anything unless it is verified by reliable sources, who pointed out in a recent article in his medium that Activision would have delayed the Call of Duty of 2023which would be being developed by Treyarch, the studio responsible for Black Ops.
It should be noted that according to Schreier, Microsoft would have had nothing to do with this decisionbut it would be due to a more commercial reason due to the low sales that Vanguard has had, the delivery launched in 2021. According to its report, Activison considers that Call of Duty Vanguard would have had poor sales because fans of the saga chose to purchase previous deliveriesso they would have competed with themselves.
On the other hand, despite the fact that Microsoft has had nothing to do with it, several rumors suggest that with the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Call of Duty would no longer be an annual saga in order to focus on improving the gameplay and content of the titles.
In addition to these rumours, it must also be said that the reduction in Call of Duty sales has been seen for years, since the arrival of the Battle Royale has caused its audience to migrate to these titles. Without going any further, Call of Duty has its own title within this genre.
Be that as it may, we will have to see what ends up happening, since we could see Activision’s quintessential war saga disappear from the shelves with the releases of that year after almost two decades on the market.
