A recent mod for Cyberpunk 2077 allows players to explore Night City in virtual reality. This release has been highly anticipated by fans ever since news broke that modder Luke Ross was developing a Cyberpunk 2077 VR mod.
Say the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 was not good would be an understatement, the game has experienced something of a redemption in the last year. For a game that was once plagued with sometimes fatal glitches and dismal performance, especially on consoles, it has managed to regain the trust of the gaming community thanks to a series of massive updates and improvements. The recent 1.5 update was the biggest update to date, adding tons of new content along with the long-awaited next-gen update. Meanwhile, between the game’s release and these big patches, PC gamers found ways to improve and extend the original game through mods. Some of these mods offered basic bug fixes or visual improvements, while others, like the Cyberpunk 2077 car customization mod, offered more substantial changes and additions.
Now, one of the latest prominent mods is the expansion of Virtual reality by Luke Ross. This mod can be accessed by becoming a member of the Ross Patreon and currently features advanced head tracking, though full motion controls have yet to be added. Also keep in mind that the VR experience seems to require a very powerful PC to run smoothly.
The mod may have some performance and stability issues, but it’s still impressive and respectable, especially for an independent developer. There are several mods that enhance Cyberpunk 2077 by making it more immersive and in-depth, but nothing can compare to the prospect of seeing Night City firsthand through a pair of VR goggles. It seems that this is ultimately what Ross intends to do with this ambitious project, so let’s hope it continues to develop and stabilize.
