Tesla launches its first Gigafactory in Europe
The Berlin-Brandenburg Gigafactory is Tesla’s fifth major global factory. It was announced in the month of November 2019 and its construction began in the spring of 2020. Approximately two years later, the facilities received official permission to start the activity and begin serial production of the smallest electric SUV that is part from the Tesla range.
All units manufactured in Germany will be destined for European markets. The facility, located very close to the German capital, combines several production units on its 300-hectare site for a total production facility of more than 227,300 m2. The factory layout is laid out vertically to stay true to the company’s approach.
By the time all assembly lines are up and running, the Tesla Gigafactory in Berlin will have a annual production capacity of half a million Model Y units. The battery production capacity will reach 50 GWh. By capacity, we are facing the largest electric vehicle factory in Europe. The workforce will be made up of around 12,000 employees at the time the activity reaches the maximum established levels.
