Netflix rescues a classic of children’s programming from the 90’s, The Teletubbies.
The streaming platform released a trailer for its new season with certain adjustments that seek to adapt to the current market.
Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po are back and better than ever, and the show will be narrated by Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Tituss Burgess.
In the trailer the narrator is heard with the famous line: “Over the hills and far away, the Teletubbies come to play!”
That voiceover will describe the adventures of the iconic quartet Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po.
‘Teletubbies’ trailer controversies
As not everything is rosy, the production made some changes with respect to the version made since the 90’s.
For more than obvious reasons, the girl who plays the original sun is no longer the same (Jess Smith is 26 years old), instead she is an Asian girl, and that generated some negative comments from users who expressed their discontent.
However, beyond that slight change, the series will have the same essence. The Teletubbies do what they always do: they dance, they eat the Tubbitostada, they see the baby Teletubbies and they say their names.
The series will have 26 episodes of 12 minutes each and will be played by Rachelle Beinart, Rebecca Hyland, Nick Chee Ping Kellington and Jeremiah Krage.
The press release says that Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po will embark on wonder-filled adventures as they learn and grow in this 21st century update of the ’90s preschool series. Each of the episodes will include the new and original song “Tummy Tales”.
Its premiere is on November 14.
