We Mexicans do not understand borders when it comes to food and business. We have exported gastronomy to Dubai, fashion and the famous La Michoacana popsicles and ice cream to Dubai, and we have even received a lawsuit for setting up a taco shop in London. However, we are not giving up and we continue to expand the places where we can remember our roots or where foreign palates fall in love with Mexico. Such is the latest viral case: the Taquería ‘Pendejo’ that is a success in South Korea.
What can be more Mexican than food and humor?
The ‘Pendejo’ Taquería, located in the city of Busan, has become very popular due to its peculiar name. According to the owners, they named the business after their experience working in New York kitchens, where chefs jokingly called each other “asshole.” Now, they have made it part of their identity, even with merchandise that reads “Asshole is number one”.
However, this is not the only thing that has attracted attention. Social networks show images of the long lines to taste one of the most iconic dishes in Mexico: tacos.
This business opened its doors on December 3, 2022 to bring the taste of birria, consommé, and quesadillas to South Koreans. They even combine the famous ramen but now with a birria flavor. You crave?
As for the prices of the ‘Pendejo’ Taquería, a taco costs 3.6 thousand won (approximately 50 Mexican pesos), the consommé 2 thousand won (30 pesos), the ‘quesabirria’ 4.1 thousand won (56 pesos) and the Birria Ramen 3.5 thousand won (almost 50 pesos).
What is birria? A gift from Jalisco to the world
According to our half brother, Mexico Unknown, the birria is one of the typical dishes of Jalisco. This is originally prepared with goat or lamb meat. However, there are places where they also make it with veal, beef or pork, and there are even those who combine two types of meat.
The ancestral recipe to prepare it is similar to that of the barbecue. The meat is marinated with the ground chiles and left to rest for several hours. Then it is wrapped in maguey leaves and baked in an underground oven. However, the method has varied over time.
On their Instagram account they only show the famous sauce valentinethe Tabasco, Gringo Bandit and tapatio. The only question that remains is, will they have spicy or non-spicy sauce?
