International Health issued an alert to the ports of Tamaulipas due to the presence of the new covid-19 XE variant. Therefore, surveillance actions are reinforced in all vessels and crew members as part of preventive measures. This, to avoid possible infections when entering Mexican ports, confirmed Víctor Hugo Gómez, in charge of the dispatch of Tampico International Health.
Index hide“Precisely because of the information that is being generated and that more observation is needed, as they say in the reports. Because this XE variant is recently observed, which apparently is a little more contagious. There are no exact data yet if there is an affectation in terms of the acute picture of the disease. More time is needed, the people responsible for health are under observation.”
He said that it has been reported internationally, therefore the corresponding surveillance began. Before the new variant of coronavirus that a few weeks ago was reported by health authorities.
It is the well-known as XE a combination between two already known strains.
“For this the XE variant an alert was issued in Tamaulipas, for the moment infected crews are ruled out. We have not detected risk situations in our ports, we have been working actively. And if it were to occur, there is a methodology implemented to carry out the application of a security measure.
Before the arrival of the boats to portsin collaboration with the captain who must present the document called maritime declaration of health, it is mentioned if there is any suspicion of risk of illness. Immediately a risk analysis is done and if there is suspicion access to the terminal is not allowed and the related work is done in the anchorage area, ruling out any suspicion they enter the port.
Tamaulipas: What is the new hybrid variant of COVID-19 called XE like?
XE is a combination of the variants Omicron BA.1 and BA.2 highly transmissible and was first detected in the UK in mid-January. Its spike protein is derived from BA.2.
Globally, XE has so far been assigned to about 700 viral genomes. The variant has been detected mainly in the UK and now in a handful of cases elsewhere, including Thailand and the US, most likely due to travel-related spread.
Based on current UK estimates, XE has a slight transmission advantage (5-10%) over BA.2, which would make it the most transmissible subvariant of Omicron identified to date. Whenever a new, more transmissible variant emerges, it has a chance of becoming the dominant variant over time.
TOXE has not yet been assigned its own Greek letter. For the time being, it belongs to Ómicron until significant differences in transmission and characteristics of the disease, including severity, are identified.
What is the incubation time for the XE variation of covid?
Until now there is not enough evidence to draw firm conclusions about the transmissibility of XE and there is almost no data on its severity or ability to evade immunity.
Similarly, it has not been reported that the incubation period is different from that of the omicron variations and omicron stealth, from which the XE has emerged, so it would still be about 3 days. Therefore, a shorter incubation period than that of the Delta variation, established between 5 and 6 days.
