Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger were, during the 80s and 90s, two of the biggest stars in action movies. But, just as they had a gigantic popularity, they also had a great rivalry that was quite publicized and commented. Now, Stallone has talked about how this competition inside and outside the art field evolved into a great friendship. Of course, not without first explaining why the friction began.
During an interview with Forbeson the occasion of the premiere of his new series Tulsa Kingthe histrion of the wrecker (1993) reflected on the times when his films and Arnold’s were at the top of the box office not only in the United States, but around the world. According to his words, both competed because they were almost the only representatives of a highly consumed genre. This was what he said:
“We really disliked each other because we were… this may sound a bit vain, but I think we were pioneers of a kind of genre at the time and that hasn’t really been seen since.”

Furthermore, Sly went on to claim that much of the rivalry stemmed from Schwarzenegger being highly competitive, which he claimed was in his nature. However, the director of The indestructibles (2010) recognized that he also likes to compete.
“So competition is his nature, he’s very competitive and so am I… and I thought it actually helped, but off-screen we were still competitive and that wasn’t healthy at all, but we’ve become really good friends.”
Today, both stars are constantly visiting each other. They even share on their social networks the strength of their friendship, which has gone so far that they have already shared the screen. What do you think of the old rivalry between Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger?
