One more week has begun and that means The House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel spinoff on HBO Max, continues to make strides toward the end of its exciting first season. With the time jump already settled, today we bring you our summary of The House of the Dragon 1×07 so you can refresh the main events that have taken place in this episode or to check that you have not missed anything relevant and that it will be important for the chapters to come. Let’s go there with the summary of this tricky episode.
- The episode begins at Lady Laena’s funeral and wake. Although nothing bloody happens this time, tensions between the family are running high. Vyseris calls Alicent Aemma (after her ex-wife), and their eldest son, Aegon, hangs out on street corners getting drunk. We also learn that Otto Hightower has regained his former status as Hand after Strong’s death.
- Princess Rhaenys tells her husband, Lord Corlys, that it is clear that Rhaenyra’s children are not of Laenor’s blood and that it should be the daughters of Daemon and Laena who inherit the lands. Corlys says that the story does not remember the facts, but the names, rejecting the proposal.
- Night falls and Alicent’s youngest son, Aemond, emerges from his chamber, heads towards what was Laena’s dragon and manages, against all odds, to tame it and make it his own. On the triumphant return to his room, he runs into Laena’s daughters, furious that this dragon should belong to them. This causes a confrontation between Aemond and Rhaenyra’s children, one of whom ends up stabbing the eye of Aemond, who had called them bastards earlier.
- The dispute moves to where Vyseris and Alicent are. As Alicent cries out for revenge against Rhaenyra’s son, asking for his eye to be gouged out, Aemond himself acknowledges that the exchange of an eye for a dragon is a fair one and that he is content. Alicent, however, does not and charges Rhaenyra with a knife, wounding her in the hand. All this without Laenor present, minding her own business.
- Shortly before Rhaenyra was sharing a walk with her uncle Daemon, where she confesses that she has always felt that they should be together and they end up having sex, consummating what was not a decade ago.
- Following this event, Rhaenyra and Daemon agree that their next move should be to marry and rule all of Westeros together. But for this Laenor would have to die.
- Daemon commissions Laenor’s lover to be the one to end her life, promising her riches and a new life abroad. He agrees, sneaks into Laenor’s chambers and begins to battle with him. When Corlys arrives in the room all we see is a charred body in the fireplace.
- Immediately afterwards we see the wedding between Rhaenyra and Daemon before the disgusted and displeased look of the daughters. The final scene of the episode shows us that Laenor has not been killed, but has escaped with his lover, change of look included. His intentions are unknown.
