Recently renovated, the Subaru Forester has been offered in Spain since the beginning of this year. An interesting SUV that opens a sports version that will not cross the borders of the country of the rising sun. The Subaru Forester STI Sport adds a very special touch to the model that will be exclusive to Japan.
At the end of last year, the Subaru Forester received an important update catching up to a very renewed competition. The Japanese model is one of the most interesting options on the European continent, with a dynamic capacity off the asphalt well above important rivals, to which is added the high efficiency that it boasts thanks to a hybrid mechanic.
The Subaru model is of global production, also standing out in markets as important as the United States or Japan. It is in the one of the rising sun where the model has acquired a new dimension, bringing out its sportier side, debuting the New Subaru Forester STI Sport. A more aggressive option on the aesthetic plane compared to the mechanical one, since the typical genes of the WRX have remained in the inkwell and far from the Forester, focusing much more on the exterior and interior image.
The Subaru Forester STI Sport has a sportier facade
The new Forester STI Sport stands out for a new grille with the emblem of the three magic letters in pink, attracting as much attention as the glossy black finish of the special insert of the side skirts, the housings of the rear-view mirrors and the sides of the rear window, together with the spoiler on the tailgate, in addition to the antenna in the form of a shark fin and the insert in the rear bumper as a diffuser. The outer package is completed with the 18-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the Forester STI Sport stands out much more with seats trimmed in nappa leather in a dark shade of red -called Bordeaux- on the sides and black on the bench seat and backrests, a combination that is also repeated on the door panels and the dashboard. The digital instrument panel lights up in red, the color of sportiness, also presenting the usual STI logos and aluminum pedals.
The sports version of this important model from the Japanese house does not present any novelties on the mechanical level, keeping the engine intact. four cylinders and 1.8 liters DIT with turbo and a maximum power of 177 CV, which is not offered in Europe. A version that is associated with the CVT-type automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, although where there is something new is in the chassis. The brand offers an improved ride, thanks to some new front shock absorbers -signed by Hitachi Astemo SFRD- and rear tuned by STI, that offer a firmer and more energetic setting. An option that will go on sale in Japan, starting in August but, except for surprise, we will not see in Europe.
