Stuggart University students have manufactured an electric car that can accelerate from 0 to 100 in 1.46 seconds. Its about E0711-11 EVOa small single-seater that has earned them to receive a Guinness record.
The vehicle was developed by 20 university students who participate in Formula Student with the GreenTeam team, an amateur circuit of brilliant minds.
According to the report published on the website of Gizmodothis is the third time that the GreenTeam has broken the acceleration record for Formula Student, an automotive engineering competition between university students.
On September 23, the single-seater managed to cover the Bosch race track in Renningen in 1.46 seconds, despite the autumn temperatures. Then on October 6, he was confirmed by Guinness World Records for the feat.
GreenTeam Records
In 2012, the GreenTeam achieved a mark of 2.681 seconds. In 2015, he set a new record of 1.779 seconds. His last great mark, before the one achieved last month, was in 2016, of 1.513 seconds.
The latest version of the E0711-11 EVO accelerates from 0 to 100 in exactly 1.461 seconds. To get an idea of its power, comparing it to Tesla’s Model S Plaid, it accelerates from 0 to 100 in 2.1 secondss, making it clear that the electric car weighs 15 times less (145 kg) than the Tesla.
The GreenTeam car weighs 28 kilos less than its previous model, all thanks to a new carbon chassis. Other features to note are its maximum power of 180 kW, which is equivalent to an engine of 1750 CV per tonne, more than a Formula 1.
That motor allows the E0711-11 EVO to achieve a maximum acceleration of 2.5 g, roughly the force astronauts experience when a rocket re-enters Earth’s atmosphere.
