During last week’s State of Play we saw the first official trailer for Street Fighter 6, the next installment in the series with which Capcom plans to redefine fighting games. In the trailer we could see that Ryu and Chun-Li have new designs, and the director of Street Fighter 6 has already confirmed that it is SF III sequelso finally the story will move on.
For those who don’t know, both Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter V are prequels to Street Fighter III, where we saw Ryu reach a new level on his way to becoming a true martial artist. According to Takayuki Nakayama, “Ryu still feels that ‘he hasn’t reached that point yet‘”.

Takayuki Nakayama’s comment, director of Street Fighter 6, was published on the official Street Fighter account along with an image that clearly shows us Ryu’s new look, wearing a Buddhist blanket in memory of Goken, his teacher and the of Ken Masters, whom life has not treated so well in this new installment.
Although Street Fighter 6 takes place after the Street Fighter III series, Ryu still feels that he ‘hasn’t reached that point yet’ – although he seems to have regained some dignity. The way he wears the kasaya (Buddhist blanket) is reminiscent of his teacher, Goken.”
Street Fighter 6 is scheduled for release in 2023 and will come to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PS5, and PC. This new installment is being developed with the RE Engine and will have 3 main game modes: Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub.
It didn’t take long since the first official trailer for Street Fighter 6 was released for the list of its characters to be leaked, where we saw the new designs of the 22 fighters in the game, among which there are both veterans and newcomers. It is not known if they will all be available from launch.
In the character leak we could see that Cammy has a totally new design, which was not liked by some fans who wanted to see her in her classic outfit. However, a leak confirmed that the classic skin is also back, so Street Fighter 6 would please both new and old generations.
