The new Stellantis battery factory in the United States
Stellantis has indicated that this new electric car battery plant should be ready to start activity in the first quarter of 2025. The construction of the factory will have to be completed in a short space of time. The factory will allow creation of 1,400 new jobs and, what is even more important, it will have a capacity of initial annual production of 23 GWh.
When the factory works at full capacity, something that is expected to be achieved years later, it will predictably reach 33 GWh. Stellantis will gradually increase its battery production capacity and, above all, in parallel with the increase in demand for electric vehicles from the brands that make up this colossus of the automobile industry.
The joint venture of Stellantis and Samsung SDI has planned invest more than 2,500 million dollars (2,300 million euros) in these facilities in which battery modules will be produced. Some battery modules that, remember, will be used for electric cars that Stellantis will also assemble in North America. By the way, it is not ruled out that the investment could be gradually increased to reach 3,100 million dollars (2,900 million euros).
Stellantis’ strategic plan in North America
Stellantis has set itself the goal sell 5 million electric vehicles per year worldwide by 2030. By then, 50% of its North American passenger car and pickup registrations must come from electric vehicles.
