After weeks and weeks of rumors, Steam Deck, Valve’s portable console that runs PC games, is a reality and is causing a lot of stir on the networks for all the possibilities it offers. Not only is it a surprising thing on the outside, with its two trackpads, and on the inside, with a next-generation AMD chip, the new thing from Valve will also have numerous functionalities at the software level. What a system similar to the Xbox Quick Resume to pause games and resume them at the same point later.
If we take a look at the system functionalities of this Steam Deck, Valve talks about a thing called “Fast Suspend / Resume»(Via Gamingbolt), which is still a system capable of pause a game so you can put the console to sleep and run it again at that point when it is turned on again. This system has proven to be enormously useful on Xbox Series X | S, being able to save mid-game games for days, and even more necessary on portable systems like Nintendo Switch, where turning the console on and off can be a matter of just a few minutes traveling in the metro or on the bus.
At the moment, it has not been specified during how much time Games may be suspended, especially large, high-performance Triple A games, but bearing in mind that the Steam Deck has a battery up to 8 hours duration, it shouldn’t be a big deal.
Steam Deck will go on sale at December 2021 at a base price of 419 euros, although there will be more expensive versions with larger and faster storage. We will see how the market reacts to this portable PC game console in the face of direct competition such as the Nintendo Switch OLED model.
