In the United States it is almost an obligation to tip the waiters.
In Japan, this act is considered rude and offensive.
In Mexico, according to Profeso, it is not mandatory, but it is a custom.
The viralization of a topic can be a great opportunity for many to make their stories known in a world that is increasingly saturated with information. This is the case of a viral poster of the employees of a Starbucks branch in Mexicali, with which they creatively ask consumers to leave tips for their work.
Tipping is one of the most discussed topics among consumers and especially the workers who receive it. According to data from Ofer Azar in 2007, the restaurant industry in the world gave 42 billion dollars in tips to service employees.
In this sense, throughout the world the culture of tips is totally different, since in many countries it is mandatory and is even regulated by law.
An example of this is in the United States, where it is established that the tip is around 20 percent of consumption. While in Japan, it is considered rude and can be taken as an act of superiority towards restaurant or venue workers.
For its part, in our country, Mexico, tipping is a practice that is not mandatory, since the Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office (Profeco) details that food and beverage establishments must adjust wages and salaries of their employees, since there is no automatic amount.
The history
Through a video on TikTok, The creative way that some employees of the Starbucks branch in Mexicali find themselves asking their customers for tips was revealed.
The video that has gone viral shows how the employees decided to create creative posters with viral memes to request tips from the customers they serve.
The posters are surprising for how happy and creative they are, which is why the click has gone viral on social networks, leaving endless digital pulse interactions.
On these posters you can see characters like Spiderman, Mr. Krabs and Pikachu with messages like: “Tips are not declared to the SAT” or “Coperacha to bring good artists to the festivities of the sun”.

“Someone raise the salary of whoever came up with this genius,” says one of the comments.
“I’ll make one for my job,” read another comment.
“That’s right, but they smile at me a lot,” said another Internet user.
Like this story, other similar ones have gone viral, where workers, mostly from restaurants, share their peculiar ways of asking for tips and there are even those who document the amount of money they can make in a day of work just with tips.
Although for many it is an invasive practice, many workers earn their salaries only with what they collect in tips, which is why it is a topic that creates a lot of controversy around the world.
