In what will surely be a surprise to many, the Splinter Cell remake director David Grivel has left Ubisoft. Grivel has previously worked on other Ubisoft games, including being the lead designer on Far Cry 6. Grivel’s departure announcement came directly from him on social media, after spending over 10 years at Ubisoft Toronto, the studio who is currently working on the Splinter Cell Remake.
The Splinter Cell Remake has lost its director, a new director has yet to be appointed, and there has been no word on how this departure will affect work on the Splinter Cell Remake. A remake of the original Splinter Cell was announced in December 2021, but after that information about the next title became scarce. On the other hand, we know that the new Splinter Cell will adapt a story for modern audiences.
Splinter Cell remake director leaves Ubisoft
Grivel has announced his departure from the Splinter Cell remake on his official LinkedIn page. No specific reason has been given for his departure from Ubisoft. Grivel has also confirmed that is taking a new position at People Can Fly Studio as creative director. People Can Fly Studio is probably best known for collaborating with Epic Games on Gears of War: Judgment and Bulletstorm. The last released title in the Splinter Cell franchise was Splinter Cell: Blacklist in 2013.
Ubisoft cancels the development of four games, including a new Splinter Cell
It has been almost a decade since a new installment of the Splinter Cell franchise has not seen the light. With the sudden departure of the game’s director, fans can only hope that the game will keep moving forward until its release. While Splinter Cell has long been a single-player stealth experience, Ubisoft has recently shut down online services for many of its titles, including the previous Splinter Cell game. Let’s hope Grivel’s departure doesn’t negatively affect the development of a long-awaited new entry in the Splinter Cell franchise.
