For some people, gaming is more than just a relaxing pastime or an engaging story. It represents a kind of challenge, and not necessarily based on the traditional experience of a game. With the event of speedrunning Summer Games Donate Quick, which has recently raised millions for charity, running is very much alive and has plenty of talented players who are capable of completing titles in world record times.
This is truer than with fans of Super Mario Bros., and it seems that a “perfect” race is close to being realized. Well, in a recent video of the Twitch streamer, Nebula_Composer, he has been able to show his skills of speedrunning completing the original Super Mario Bros. in a time of just 4:54:948.
According to Speedrun.com, this is the third time someone has beaten the game in under 4:55. Although this latest video is not the world record, it is milliseconds away from unseating number one. One report says that runners are getting closer and closer to the “fastest possible time”, and that every time they run they take away valuable frames. Supposedly, the time to aim for is 4:54:26, so all three players are very close to achieving this goal.
If anyone hits this frame-perfect time, it could spell the end of speedruns for the iconic platform game. Of course, there are other ways for people to challenge themselves.
For example, one person managed to speedrun Super Mario with one hand. With a time of 4:57:676, he is just three seconds shy of the top three records, and the fact that he was able to do it single handed is immensely impressive.
