The Specter Solutions team announced yesterday the release of version 1.8.0 of its PC application, where it is now possible to activate savings plans in BTC thanks to the integration of Swan Bitcoin.
The news was published on the official Specter account at Twitter through a thread, in which the most relevant improvements included in this update are mentioned. It is important to note that the main function of this software is to facilitate the administration of wallets and their connection with the user’s own bitcoin node, in order to enhance the privacy and security of their transactions.
Specter Desktop users will not only be able to launch BTC savings plans managed by Swan Bitcoin; but also, they will be able to automate the withdrawal of their savings in bitcoin so they go directly to any of your wallets linked to the Specter app.

The main advantage of the integration of both platforms is that this Specter allows the use of single-signature and multi-signature wallets alike, and connect them to a user’s own Bitcoin node. This offers an extra layer of privacy and security when making transactions.
Another advantage that Specter Desktop users have, after the integration of Swan Bitcoin, is that the Bitcoin addresses that Specter will share are not of the xPub type, in order to further favor the privacy of their clients.
Bitcoin xPub addresses reveal many details of a wallet. Although sensitive information such as private keys remains only available to the owner, it is possible to see the entire transaction history.
The term xPub comes from the English Extended Public which refers to an extended version of the public key or address to receive bitcoins. In fact, standard addresses are derived from this extended public key.
One final privacy enhancement is the encryption of data related to the interaction between Swan Bitcoin and Specter Desktop. The user has the possibility to protect this data using his password.
Other improvements included in version 1.8.0 of Specter Desktop
In addition to everything related to the Swan Bitcoin integration, Specter Desktop also added the possibility to link the Jade cold wallet, developed by Blockstream, to use it in multisig accounts.
Finally, another improvement that this version of the application has is in its transaction history search tool. Now it is possible to get the transactions made previously just by typing part of the address the BTC was sent to, the amount sent, the date it was made, the TxID, or the transaction label.
Complaints from bitcoiners about Specter’s alliance with sites that use KYC
Following the announcement of Swan Bitcoin’s integration into Specter Desktop, concerns and complaints of some users were quick to respond to the @SpecterWallet thread on Twitter.
The cause of concern to these users is that Swan Bitcoin applies KYC (Know Your Customer) policies, and this is something that completely contradicts the bitcoiner philosophy of privacy and total independence from banking and government entities.
Moritz Wietersheim, one of the directors of Specter Solutions, commented on this that this function was optional. That is, It is up to the user whether or not they want to link their Specter Desktop and Swan Bitcoin accounts.
Despite the various features added by Specter to its app for privacy, such as data encryption and the use of non-xPub Bitcoin addresses, some of its users still fear that these measures may not be enough to keep their data safe. personal data safe.
In June 2021, Specter Solutions informed its users about an apparent Trojan virus that was present in its update to version 1.4.6 of the software.
The company’s recommendation was initially to delete the infected file and run an antivirus on the PCs that had activated the update. However, it was later learned that it was a false positive, as reported by CriptoNoticias at the time.
