Along with the rest of the operating systems that have come out today we also have the launch of the final stable version of tvOS 15. Apple’s living room player also has its moment of glory, and although it may be somewhat smaller than that of the other systems, it also contains interesting news.
All the news in tvOS 15
SharePlay (available later). The Apple TV will also be able to share what we are watching with another person through a FaceTime call.
Sign in with Face ID or Touch ID. If the third-party application integrates with this, we will be able to log into the tvOS applications using our face or our finger on the iPhone.
New sections with recommendations. tvOS 15 will add sections with everything our contacts have sent us, as well as content recommendations that all members of our family can see.
HomePod as audio output. If you have two HomePod minis, the Apple TV will be able to use them directly as its audio output without the hassle.
Spatial audio. If you have AirPods Pro or AirPods Max, you can connect them to tvOS 15 and enjoy spatial audio in that content where it is available.
Shortcuts with Siri. tvOS 15 will no longer force us to enter an application in order to use one of its commands through Siri. We can do it from anywhere in the system.
tvOS 15: compatibility
The upgrade to tvOS 15 can be installed completely free of charge at all Apple TV HD, and of course in both generations of Apple TV 4K. Older 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation Apple TVs are not supported.
The update can take up to half an hour and you may need to delete downloaded content from your device to free up space. Given that we are talking about a system that has relatively little demand compared to iOS, I do not think that you have to wait too long to download and install it.
