SpaceX is preparing to send the first tourists into space on its Inspiration4 mission. And now we have known that they would not go alone to see the stars. The company equip civilian crew with latest Apple devices to keep track of your health during the trip and carry out different studies.
It is not the first time that SpaceX uses Apple devices, but this time they will be burned more than ever. Specifically, SpaceX will give each crew member a Apple Watch Series 6, an iPhone 12 Pro, and an iPad mini. The moments they collect will be used in a series of health experiments designed to examine the impact spaceflight has on the body human.
The aerospace firm has partnered with the Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH) at Baylor School of Medicine and researchers from Weill Cornell Medicine. The project will collect environmental and biomedical data, as well as biological samples, from the four members of the mission’s crew.
“It’s a fairly loaded set of Apple projects”
Apple devices to monitor health
According to SpaceX, during the mission the Apple Watch will collect data such as “research-grade ECG activity, movement, sleep, heart rate and rhythm, blood oxygen saturation, cabin noise, and light intensity.”.
In addition, crew members will perform cognitive assessments with the Cognition app on iPad mini. A software that is used by research studies funded by NASA.
And for his part, the iPhone 12 Pro will be pairing with the Butterfly IQ + ultrasound device to scan crew organs. The assessment will help determine if non-medical personnel can use the Butterfly IQ + artificial intelligence guidance, presented through an app, to acquire clinical-grade images without assistance.
The mission Inspiration4 is loaded with Apple devices and has been scheduled to launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on September 7.
