The sale of video game studios continues to be the order of the day.
Following the acquisitions of Bungie and Haven Studios, Jim Ryan, CEO of PlayStation, insisted that there are still more acquisitions planned. Now that it sounds loud again that Warner Bros. would be interested in selling its video game studios, it has been reiterated that this is something that Sony knows and that is why it has applied for its possible acquisition. In fact, industry analyst Michael Pachter has clarified that Sony should make Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment an acquisition targetalbeit with nuances.
According to Patcher, Sony and Warner Bros. deals should involve acquiring licenses for Warner Bros. and DC properties, which would justify a high price for the Japanese company. “I think if Sony was really smart they would move to Warner Bros. InteractivePatcher said. “Warner Bros. Interactive isn’t worth full price without the rights to exploit the DC Comics franchises. So it’s an open question if Warner Bros. is willing to, you know, $5 million a year or $50 million a year, an amount that’s manageable, and commit that they’re going to have a perpetual renewal.”.
In this way, Patcher concludes: “if you can’t do Warner Bros. properties like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and DC Comics, then there’s really no point in buying Warner Bros. Interactive” as “there are brands there that are very good like Mortal Kombat and Injustice, but Injustice has DC characters. But they are the only ones I can think of that are sizable and nominally for sale.”.
Do you think Sony will be the buyer of WB Games? Will the company pass into other hands?
